Design Notes November 2009 - Lonny Magazine

With the economy doing somersaults and magazines dropping like flies, it’s no surprise that design enthusiasts are turning to the web for their daily dose of inspiration. It may not be the same as getting that coveted issue in the mail each month, but Lonny - the new online interiors magazine - is causing quite a stir. Launched last month by Michelle Adams, doyen of eco-friendly fabric house Rubie Green and her partner, photographer Patrick Cline, it’s bursting with beautiful homes, clever ideas and boatloads of style.

This isn’t just another website by the way - reading Lonny is like flipping through the pages of a virtual magazine. What’s better, with no paper to worry about, they can give their interiors as many pages as they fancy (an unprecedented 35 in one case)! While the premiere issue is heavy on American content, the name is an anagram for London and New York and promises to up the UK content in future issues, so stay tuned.


We were particularly smitten with designer Eddie Ross’ ingenious transformation of the bathroom in his 1760’s country house.  It’s no surprise that he created such an inviting space; Ross was formerly Senior Decorating Editor at Martha Stewart Living, a finalist on American reality show Top Design, and is a master flea-marketer, chef, gardener…  We love how he decorates this room as he would any other.  Using antlers in place of ordinary towel hooks; fabricating a skirt for the sink to hide unsightly pipes; storing all the necessary accoutrements in beautiful cups and jars. Even displaying black and white china to compliment the tiled floor.

And there’s so much more where that came from! No need to run to the nearest newsstand, log on and start drooling…
