Design Notes September 2012 London Design Festival

If you are a fan of Balineum’s monthly Design Notes then it’s probably safe to assume that you have a healthy interest in design. That being the case, I urge all of our readers to visit London at the end of this month, when the city’s annual design fair takes hold. LDF, as it’s nicknamed by insiders, is celebrating its 10th anniversary and the festivities lined up are in keeping with a year of grand celebrations set off by the Jubilee and Olympic games. In addition to the fair’s beloved stalwarts, 100% Design and Decorex, there are a slew of other noteworthy events that should also be on your radar.

In the Brompton Design District, The Conran Shop marks 25 years at the Michelin building with its RED exhibition. Pop by and scope out iconic pieces swathed in the fiery hue of British pillar boxes to mark the occasion. In Soho, explore six-floors of a Victorian townhouse now occupied by19 Greek Street Gallery House. Opening this month, it boasts a treasure trove of contemporary designs that are sure to be future classics. Towards Clerkenwell, Design Junction has returned for its sophomore year with a mix of vintage and modern pieces spanning 10,000 sqm of a former Royal Mail sorting office. And as always, the Victoria & Albert Museum is truly the hub of the fair, this year showing jaw-dropping installations by Nendo and Keiichi Matsuda. There’s all this and so much more!
