Trends have their place in design but when it comes to decorating your own home, the rule of thumb is to follow your gut. Where fads come and go, your gut is your guiding light. So dare we call it a trend (and forgive the pun) but speaking of light, we’ve been seeing quite a lot of lanterns in the bathroom lately and our gut is telling us this look is here to stay.
To be clear, we’re not talking about the wall-mounted Sherlock Holmes variety. There’s something very Ralph Lauren about this lot. The way he injects the same level of style into a log cabin in Aspen as his glamorous New Bond Street flagship, these lanterns exude all the grandness of a lavishly converted barn or a gilded palazzo. And don’t be afraid to go large! An oversized example with clean lines and minimal design is perfect for the bathroom. Despite its size, the airiness of this style won’t overwhelm your eye in even the most modestly proportioned spaces.
For a stunning selection of lanterns, check out some of our favourite sources: Charles Edwards, Vaughan, and Holloways of Ludlow.
