Our makers

British Metalwork

Many of our solid brass bathroom fittings and furnishings are made by a specialist team in the English Midlands. The business began more than 30 years ago in a small workshop producing period-style brass fittings and towel warmers. Despite their growth, every piece continues to be meticulously crafted on-site, with almost all raw materials sourced within the UK, too.

For Balineum, that means collections like Gotham and Hanbury are truly 100% Made in England. The factory starts with raw brass sheets, rods, and wire, along with high-quality distortion-free mirror glass, transforming them into hooks, shelves, mirrors, shower rails, washstands and more. Each piece has the weight of an heirloom and is crafted with incredible attention to detail, including concealed screws and, in some cases, custom sizing.

Production takes place entirely under one roof and spans a machine shop, fabrication bay, polishing shop, in-house electroplating facility and assembly bay. In the machine shop, components are carved from solid brass and may be drilled, milled or lathe-turned. In fabrication, parts are welded, wire is bent by hand, and mirror frames are hand-mitred and silver-soldered by master artisans.

From there, components are hand-polished before being electroplated and assembled, with inspection checks at key stages along the way. Our final products are available in a choice of finishes, including polished nickel and chrome, unlacquered brass, and an aged bronze living finish designed to develop a natural patina over time. It's a testament to the longevity of quality craftsmanship.
