Midlands Delft by Katrin Moye

This item is made to order.

A collaboration between Balineum and Nottingham-based artist, Katrin Moye, this collection is a playful homage to European Delftware tiles; proudly designed and made in the Midlands. Drawing on Moye’s original handmade ceramics, the collection features 7 painterly, botanical designs along with ‘Plain’ tiles available with optional ‘Pips’ corner motifs.

Moye focuses on embellished vessels, relief sculpted panels and reinterpretations of historical European tin-glazed ceramics in her art practice, which can be found in permanent museum collections, including the Victoria & Albert Museum. References to Georgian, Baroque and Renaissance interior design, Italian Maiolica and Golden Age Dutch painting can all be seen in her work.

Arrange them in your own mural configuration, as a chequerboard pattern with Pips tiles or scatter occasional designs across a wall of Midlands Delft Plain tiles. Tiles are made to order in England with no minimums.

100 x 100 x 9 mm

Ceramic Tile Care: Clean tile surfaces with a non-abrasive, mild and PH neutral cleaner. Neutral cleaners are devoid of acids, caustics, harsh fillers, or abrasives that could scratch the surface of the tile. Do not use abrasive cleaning pads, steel wool, metal brushes or scouring pads as these may scratch the surface of the glaze. Crackled tiles and tiles that will face regular wet use should be sealed after installation and periodically as needed.

Typical lead time 6-12 weeks

Clay for each tile is extruded before hand cutting with metal cutters. A traditional method that is rarely found in British tile making anymore.

To recreate Moye’s distinctive motifs, artisans in Stoke-on-Trent paint each tile with layers of slip, before screen printing the outline of her artwork and finishing each tile with hand painted colour details.
