Caribbean Hideaway

Caribbean Hideaway

At the height of summer, we’re all feeling inspired by stylish beachy retreats. August in particular, brings to mind the Caribbean hideaway of Marianne Brandi and Keld Mikkelsen that ran in Living Etc this time last year. Perched on a hilltop in the impossibly glamorous St. Barts, the duo behind Day Birger et Mikkelsen built a haven that exudes the island’s effortless beauty. It’s a home full of cleverly placed antiques channeling the colonial roots of the West Indies, and the bathroom is no exception...

The paired down simplicity of this space is so brilliant that we still refer back to it for inspiration a year on. There are no bells and whistles here, just clean lines and a functional set up that retains the feeling of nonchalance inherent to a beach house. The windows along the top let in light and air while maintaining privacy. The twin washbasins (from Waterworks we’re sure) blend seamlessly with the classic white tiles. And while it would have been so easy to buy a bathroom cabinet, the antique dresser is so much more fun and brings the sleek space to life. Kudos to the couple for thinking outside the box!
