Enveloped in de Gournay wallpaper, this London bathroom by Nicole Salvesen and Mary Graham of Salvesen Graham is a wonderful example of the power of pattern and attention to detail.
Take the combination of our Agatha mirror and Gotham washstand with a custom marble top. The backsplash needed height to protect the wallpaper but, to keep the stone from looking too imposing, Mary and Nicole specified that the corners be cut to mimic the lines of the mirror.
Opposite the washstand, they lined the shower with our Series S Italian Decorative tiles in Ponza I (15cm Square format) to play off de Gournay’s ‘Amazonia’ Chinoiserie wallpaper in a smaller scale. The tiles were glazed in green (C631) and blue (C451) to pull out the colours in the wallpaper, which was hand painted onto a dyed silk 'Caribbean Sea' ground.
To bridge the two patterns, the designers finished off the shower with our Series S Listello tile in matching C451 blue, in a brushed hand-painted finish. They also lined the window casing with marble offcuts. “Those details just make everything feel more luxurious and more interesting,” notes Nicole.
Perhaps most importantly, the combination of materials and colours — including the warmth of brass accents — makes this luxurious guest bathroom feel incredibly approachable. “That’s what’s really lovely about it. It’s sort of puling you in," says Nicole.
